Outlying Landing Field (OLF) News & Updates

Ducks Unlimited and the Navy's Outlying Landing Field (OLF)

As detailed in the letters and videos below, we do not support the Navy's decision to install an outlying landing field in Washington County, North Carolina. The close proximity of the landing field to large numbers of waterfowl is simply asking for disaster, both for the birds and for the Navy.

Bird strikes are a serious concern, as is the environmental impact of having large numbers of fighter aircraft performing low altitude maneuvers over such a richly populated waterfowl refuge. We urge the Navy and the US Senate to rethink the location of this landing field, in favor of a more environmentally sound location. The risks to Navy pilots would be reduced, and the risk to the waterfowl would be as well.
